Turku Music Festival

The Turku Music Festival is Finland’s oldest continuously running music festival, having been founded by the Musical Society in Turku in 1960. It has evolved into a diverse urban event with a wide range of excellent music including grand orchestral concerts, chamber music, recitals, jazz, outdoor events and children’s concerts. The guest roster includes Finnish and foreign stars each year. The current artistic director is artist and composer Lauri Porra. Turun musiikkijuhlat on Suomen vanhin yhtäjaksoisesti toiminut musiikkifestivaali. Festivaalin perustajana oli vuonna 1960 Turun Soitannollinen Seura. Monipuolinen kaupunkifestivaali tarjoaa korkeatasoista musiikkia, mm. suuria orkesterikonsertteja, kamarimusiikkia, resitaaleja, jazzia, ulkoilmatapahtumia ja konsertteja lapsille. Juhlilla käy vuosittain niin kotimaisia kuin ulkomaisia huippuartisteja. Taiteellisena johtajana toimii taiteilija ja säveltäjä Lauri Porra.

Polyteknikkojen Orkesteri - The Polytech Orchestra

The Polytech Orchestra, founded in 1922, is a student symphony orchestra from Espoo, Finland. The orchestra works in co-operation with Aalto University Student Union (AYY). Most of the approximately one hundred members are students and alumni from Aalto University, but there are also students from other universities and schools from the greater Helsinki area. The orchestra is conducted by James Kahane. The main events of the year are the autumn and spring concerts in the Helsinki area along with the spring tour that is typically headed to different parts of Finland. The orchestra has also given concerts abroad, for instance in Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, Estonia, and Scotland. On every 1st of May, the yearly student festival in Finland, the Polytech Orchestra arranges the Waputin concert with both music and dancing. Waputin concert is arranged in a humorous way around a yearly-changing theme so that the audience can enjoy both music performances and the joy of waltz and other dances. The Polytech Orchestra takes new members twice a year: in the beginning of September and January.

ELMU, Helsinki's Live Music Association, was established in 1978 with the goal of establishing a vivid live music scene in the Finnish capital. At that time, rehearsal space for local bands was scarce and opportunities to perform live were very limited. Within weeks after launching, ELMU gained more than three thousand members. From its first office at Eerikinkatu 15, ELMU started to organize club concerts at KY and Natsa. In August 1979, ELMU opened the first nightclub of its own, Lepakko, which was situated in a former paint storage hall. Nowadays, the association's headquarters is located at Nosturi, which comprises a 900-capacity live venue, rehearsal rooms for approximately 50 local bands, office spaces and a restaurant. ELMU's primary mission is to provide versatile, low-threshold opportunities for young people to enjoy music and culture, be it as listeners or as performing artists. Our goal is to support the well-being of youngsters and to encourage their interest in musical culture. In addition to its local activities, ELMU has more than 30 years of experience in organizing trips to festivals in Sweden, Germany, Denmark and other European countries, covering a broad range of musical genres.

Rytmi-instituutti populaarimusiikin asiantuntijaorganisaatio, joka on yksi Suomen viidestä musiikki-instituutista. Rytmi-instituutin tehtävä on edistää elävää ja luovaa populaarimusiikkikulttuuria. Sitä ylläpitää Rytmi-instituutin kannattajayhdistys ry, joka perustettiin vuonna 1990 populaarimusiikin koulutus, tutkimus, julkaisu- ja tiedotusinstituutioksi pitämään yllä alan kansainvälisiä ja kotimaisia suhteita ja edistämään populaarimusiikin toimintakenttää Suomessa. Edistämistehtävää on vuosien varrella toteutettu muun muassa julkaisemalla musiikkiaiheista kirjallisuutta, tuottamalla bändisoitinten opetusta, järjestämällä rocklyriikkakilpailuja, verkostoimalla musiikkialan yrityksiä sekä tukemalla bändien kiertuetoimintaa ja artistin urakehitystä. Julkaisutoimintamme pääväylä, Rytmimanuaali, on Suomen kattavin verkko-opas musiikintekemisen ja musiikkibisneksen maailmaan. Rytmimanuaalin tarkoitus on nostaa päivänvaloon alan hiljainen tieto. Aiheet kattavat koko musiikintekemisen kirjon biisinkirjoituksesta urasuunnitteluun. Koulutuksissa Rytmi-instituutti on kiinni ajassa. Vuosien varrella koulutuksia on järjestetty esimerkiksi instrumenttien hallinnasta, eri musiikkityyleistä, elektronisen musiikin tekemistä, studiotyöskentelystä, esitystekniikasta, musiikkivideon tekemisestä ja oheistuotteiden valmistamista. Viime vuosina koulutuksessa on panostettu liiketoimintaosaamisen edistämiseen. Käsiteltäviin aiheisiin kuuluvat niin markkinointi, myynti kuin talous ja sopimuksetkin. Tavoitteena on vahvistaa DIY-osaamista sekä luoda pohjaa tulevaisuuden bisnesosaamiselle. Musiikkialan tapahtumat ovat osa toimintamme. Rytmi-instituutti on osallistunut MARS-festivaalin, SAD- ja DJ Weekend -tapahtumien syntyyn ja kehitykseen. Tuorein tapahtumaprojektimme on Ääniaallot studiolaitenäyttely Seinäjoen Rytmikorjaamolla, missä nähdään kattava määrä studioteknologiaa Suikki Jääskän lahjoittamasta studiolaitekokoelmasta.
