The Gustav Mahler Society of Colombo was established with the aim of restructuring and revitalizing orchestral music in Sri Lanka and removing barriers that limit its accessibility. The Society hosts Sri Lanka’s premier orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo established the Society’s self-titled Chorus, earning repute as the largest performing ensemble in the country. The Society’s mission entails Performance, Outreach, and Education.

Naadro began its long and yet unfinished and necessarily unending journey across the global musical firmament as a percussion band. We began with some rudimentary percussion instruments, some of which were popular across the world. Within a short period of time we not only obtained instruments from a wide range of cultures but through sheer dedication, practice and love for music became proficient at using them to expand the horizons of our percussionist passions. In this way we made a mark among the few globally recognized percussion bands. We are constantly exploring the potential of employing the traditional percussion instruments from India, Japan, Latin America and Africa along with our traditional Sri Lanka drums to create new percussion music and for this reason, have attracted a largeand growing following across the world. One of the key and unique features of Naadro is the deliberate effort to go beyond percussion instruments and to incorporate anything and everything that can produce sound as appropriate for the particular creative exercise in order to mould a signature style of percussion. Soul Sounds Academy

The Soul Sounds Academy, where all it takes is to ignite a passion to perform music at its best, was set up by its Music Director, Soundarie David Rodrigo, one of Sri Lanka’s well known musicians and also founder of Sri Lanka’s premiere female ensemble Soul Sounds in The Academy was set up with the objective of creating space for young children the opportunity to excel in music, with opportunities to perform both locally and internationally. Classes are conducted by Soundarie David Rodrigo along with a panel of experienced teachers of voice, piano, violin, guitar, special needs as well as theory of music and Musical Theatre. The Academy believes in a performance oriented approach to music, where the child is given guidance and training in active performing, and thereby further enhancing personality growth, with attention to confidence boosting, music appreciation, time management, and team work. Following the success of Soul Sounds, the first choral group in the country to venture internationally and be placed at a International Competition in Wales ten years ago, the Academy encourages young students to appreciate all genres of music, whilst learning the basics in Classical Music. Choral singing, one of the most popular classes at the Academy, has classes for all ages, from as young as 4 to 25. The Soul Sounds Academy Choir, the junior body of the award winning Soul Sounds, Sri Lanka’s premiere female ensemble, brought glory to the country, when they were awarded with two Gold Diplomas at the Asia Pacific Choir Games in Indonesia in 2013. Individual and group classes are conducted for the piano, violin, theory, musical theatre, guitar, as well as Music Therapy for Children with Special Needs. Students are sent for the ABRSM exams conducted by the Royal Schools of Music London, as well as the Trinity College of Music, London Examinations. At first, It was a product of Six school boys from a private college in Colombo getting together to make music in their realm of capabilities. Amidst ups and downs through time because of education and other reasons, WePlus once again formed themselves and contested for “The Battle of the Bands” hosted by Channel Eye in late 2014. After contesting for nearly two months while showing their diversity to the judges, the band finally bagged the championship of the contest and was also able to win the trophy for the Best Acoustic Band as well. Since then the band has kept on gaining experiences and growing to the best of their abilities. Right after Piyath’s win in Superstar, the band gained its footing and started back again in 2018 with a fresh set of players and 3 original players who were there from the beginning. Since then the band has been highly active and working towards a professionally and a financially rewarding career. Coming back to 2019 – it’s a whole different level of musicality and performing where the 8 members in the band bring in 8 different elements and a variety of colours to their performances, which are truly mesmerizing and pleasing.
