Common Knowledge
The mission of Common Knowledge is to empower people to create sustainable, affordable and happy homes. We believe our homes are the foundation for the life we want to build - but less of us than ever can afford to rent, buy or build a place to live. Even fewer of us feel confident in our ability to create a sustainable home life. We share skills through hands-on courses - skills like building, growing, making and mending. We’ve countless stories of people for whom our courses have sparked the confidence needed to overcome their fear of building. We apply these skills to community projects with mission-aligned groups - like when our community built a new home for local reforestation charity Hometree in 2021. We research & develop sustainable products and services like sheeps wool insulation, which harnesses the natural strengths of a material commonly considered a waste product We do all of this near to nature in the west of Ireland, where we’re steeped in a vibrant rural culture, never far from a seaswim, or a cosy pint, and where the meals we prepare for all our visitors are fresh, organic and nutritious. So far, people who take our courses tell us that they leave feeling twice as confident to take on their own projects. Which makes us twice as happy we decided to do this.

Through direct support, advocacy, and emergency response, we strive to create a more inclusive world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Direct Support: CBM partners with local organisations to support life-changing programmes in healthcare, rehabilitation, education, and livelihood opportunities. Together, we reach the most vulnerable individuals, helping them overcome barriers and build brighter futures. Advocacy and Fundraising: On a global scale, CBM advocates for inclusion by influencing international policy in line with UN guidelines. Through our Member Associations, we campaign and raise vital funds to ensure no one is left behind. Emergency Response: In times of crisis, CBM’s Inclusive Emergency Response team ensures the needs and rights of people with disabilities are prioritized. Whether during conflicts or natural disasters, we provide critical support to the most vulnerable communities. CBM’s mission is clear: to break down barriers, empower people with disabilities, and build a world where everyone can participate fully and equally. Together, we are making inclusion a reality.
