National Relief And Development Corps
National Relief and Development Corps (NRDC) is a registered national multi-sectoral NGO founded in 2001 by South Sudanese with a common vision; the organization started operating in Upper Nile state in 2003 and later Central Equatoria. Presently, NRDC operates in the states of Upper Nile and Central Equatoria, and has a head office in Juba Thongpiny, along Kololo Road, opposite the TM Lion Hotel and with sub-offices in Malakal, Kodok, Aburoc and Tonga. We are looking to have a more expanded program in the Equatoria Region in line with the on-going review and upgrade of the organization’s Strategic Plan. The founders of NRDC share similar challenges, inspirations, values as well as a common destiny and have founded the organization as a vehicle to bring forth meaningful change both among the membership as well as the wider South Sudanese society bedeviled by years of conflict, marginalization and a host of vicious emergencies! We believe that, in spite of the present chaos and hopelessness in the country, South Sudan will - once again - emerge as a land of immense wealth, justice and lasting peace! NRDC has prioritized her thematic domains as follows: i) Food secure communities; ii) Peaceful, secure and prosperous communities; Healthy productive communities (and including Sexual and Reproductive Health and well-being including among the youth; iv) Formal and informal Education. NRDC has purposely put food security as well as building community resilience at the core of her overarching agenda; we believe that a hungry country will be perpetually angry with herself and sustained peace and prosperity will remain a mirage! The organization is also making substantive steps to ensure greater emphasis on climate change, environmental conservation as well as people’s improved mental and psychosocial well-being. We are also seeking to address some capacity gaps across the organization’s functional areas to ensure improved effectiveness and impact.

Southern Sudan Healthcare Organization
SSHCO was created in 2008 when Founders Jacob Atem and Lual Deng Awan reconnected and decided to fashion their dream of building a health clinic in their home village of Maar in South Sudan into a reality. Both founders were once Lost Boys of Southern Sudan but before the civil war rendered them with such an unfortunate title, the pair was neighbors from the Jonglei State of South Sudan. When the violence and unrest broke through their village, Atem and Awan were separated. They eventually found one another one in Kakuma Refugee camp in Kenya where they spent the next nine years of their lives until they were able to relocate to America. Being on the receiving end of misfortune, Atem and Awan strove to give back to their community; thus the SSHCO was founded with only a $25 deposit in the bank and a passion for helping those in need. In due time, the SSHCO was able to acquire an facility, completely funded through donations. The facility served people a month and raised enough funds to supply the clinic with pharmaceuticals and medical staff until it was forced to close due to threats from the civil war. The clinic was ultimately reopened due to the partnership with IMA World Health who contributed by paying salaries to the health workers and the government of South Sudan who will provide the medications to the clinic. Since its creation, the health care clinic has delivered respectable levels of healthcare to the people of Maar and the surrounding area for the first time. For less than $5 per patient, SSHCO has provided hundreds of people with a better life.

Our ability to work in insecure and unpredictable areas is one of our distinctive features. We have a geographical focus on East Africa and the Horn of Africa. With offices in Sudan, South Sudan and the UK, we combine local knowledge and expertise with international contacts and a global perspective. This is especially important in our scholarships programme, where we work in partnership with some of the UK’s outstanding universities to provide opportunities for access to world-class teaching institutions. Reflecting our values we work across the breadth of the education sector from primary schools to the tertiary sector. Our commitment is to work with communities in all their diversity – girls and boys, refugees and citizens, teachers and school management committees. We are flexible in the way we work and have a breadth of talent to draw on. Where it is the most appropriate option, we are able to work at community level to make sure that projects are on track. At other times, we will operate at a policy level, seeking to shape the broader context or drawing attention to issues that we think are important, but too often neglected. Whatever the project, we will implement it to the best of our ability.
