Ruff Performing Arts Troupe
Ruff Performing Arts is a Jordanian performing arts troupe founded in 2019, dedicated to developing a contemporary artistic language that expresses Jordanian identity on a global scale. Through theatre, dance, music, and visual arts, Ruff blends traditional and modern influences to create innovative performances rooted in local culture. One of Ruff’s key artistic explorations is the evolution of Jordanian folkloric dance. By incorporating the structured techniques of Ballet and the expressive fluidity of Contemporary Dance into the rhythmic foundation of Dabkeh, Ruff has pioneered a new approach to movement-based storytelling. This fusion shapes a distinct theatrical identity, allowing folklore to evolve while remaining deeply connected to its origins. Throughout its journey, Ruff has produced a range of theatre and dance performances, each reflecting its commitment to cultural exploration and artistic experimentation. Notable productions include: • Galatea (2019) • Sanabel (2020) • Medraga (2021) • Watani Shams (2023) • Royal Honoring Ceremony for Outstanding Teachers (2023) • The Opening of Jerash Festival (2024) Beyond performance, Ruff continuously collaborates with Jordanian artists to expand the boundaries of its creative practice. As of 2024, the troupe has also committed to developing accessibility and inclusivity in the performing arts, ensuring that disabled artists are integral to its productions, artistic journey, and creative vision. Through its work, Ruff Performing Arts seeks to redefine Jordanian performance, bridging heritage and innovation to tell compelling stories that resonate both locally and globally.
