The Rubberbodies Collective
Founded in 2009, the rubberbodies collective (rbc) are an established multi-disciplinary artist collective. The collective places emphasis on innovative artistic productivity and collaboration with the international artistic community. The collective’s repertoire consists of theatre productions, site-specific performances, concerts, plastic arts exhibitions, publications, films and installation works. Where possible, the rbc promotes new experiences and creates opportunities, supporting the art scene, through collaboration and contribution. Historical research and ideas of “who we are”, influence rbc productions, including the performances, ‘Old Salt’ (2012), ‘Lore of the Sea’ (2011), and ‘White Sea’ (2010), all mutually influenced by Malta’s Maritime history. Other works include the video installation, “The Liquid Shark Tooth”, and the performance installation, “Dun Karm”, both produced in 2011. In 2012, the rbc co-produced collaboration ‘Penelope: Dust in Our Awakened Dreams’, with Greek contemporary dancer Athanasia Kanellopoulo. They also hosted an exclusive seminal “silent concert” at the Ħaġar Qim Temples, a UNESCO world heritage site, where sound designers and composers, Mario Sammut (rbc) and Aes Dana (Lyon, France), performed side by side. The collective also exhibited their first interactive video installation and interactive performance, ‘-hEx: inverted geometry’, as a part of Malta’s 2012 ‘Science in the City’ Festival;

Teatru Malta
MORE THAN JUST YOUR NATIONAL THEATRE COMPANY No, really. We’re more than just your national theatre company and, no, this isn’t just some lazy attempt at copying FC Barcelona’s slogan. You know why? Because there’s more to theatre than just a stage and an audience. We pride ourselves in creating work that matters. You’ve probably heard this before because we do like to say this, primarily because it’s true and because, if you take a look at our repertoire of work over the past years, you’ll notice that very little of what we do doesn’t happen for a reason. Every collaboration has an intention, every theme a scope behind it, every venue an integral part of the narrative of our shows. We’re fans of purple but have also warmed up to using yellow since we last updated this text. We like conversation, because how can we represent you if we don’t talk to you and understand you? You see, we told you we were more than just your national theatre company: we’re actually your friend.
