Motohisa Furukawa is currently serving his sixth term in Japan's House of Representatives as the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) representative for the 2nd District of Aichi Prefecture. Motohisa Furukawa (48) first entered Japan's House of Representatives in October 1996 at the age of 30. Since then, the constituents of his native Aichi Prefecture have continued to support him with constantly high percentages of the votes, giving Furukawa a clear majority in every subsequent election. In August 2009, Furukawa was re-elected with 162,237 votes, an absolute majority of 66.6 %. In this election, the people of Japan chose to have a change of government. In Hatoyama Cabinet, Furukawa became Secretary General, National Policy Unit and Senior Vice Minister for Government Revitalization, and Economic and Fiscal Policy, Cabinet Office. Furukawa was appointed by Prime Minister Kan as Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister In June 2010 until January 2011. In September 2011 Furukawa was appointed by Prime Minister Noda as Minister of the State of Policy Unit and Minister of the state for Economic and Fiscal Policy.
