Though a relatively new organisation, launched in 2015, Dukes has grown quickly and, in 2021 has four boarding and day colleges, 11 schools and 12 ‘Little Dukes’ feeder nurseries, with eight summer school locations, and a multi-branch university application consultancy service, over 4,400 pupils and just under staff. Many of these schools and organisations are long-established, with decades of experience providing excellent teaching and care to students. We are now of sufficient scale to begin to shape what excellence looks like in the education space for children of all ages. Dukes celebrates the autonomy of our schools, with Principals and Heads leading on all decisions. Each member organisation is distinctive. However, we joined together because we found cultures in these organisations that shared characteristics – optimism, ambition, and a deep commitment to outstanding teaching and learning. Royal Grammar School Newcastle
Although the exact date is subject to debate, tradition holds that the Newcastle upon Tyne Royal Grammar School was founded in 1525. Now, 500 years on, the RGS continues to flourish as the premier independent school in the North East of England and as one of the country’s leading schools. Over the centuries the school has moved five times but has occupied its present site in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, since 1906. The RGS has grown substantially in recent years. There are now some 1317 students, 264 of whom are in the Junior School. The Sixth Form of 342 is one of the largest in the independent sector. The school has a strong tradition of welcoming students from all backgrounds; the school used to have over 300 students on Assisted Places and has introduced a bursary scheme to replace them in some measure. The efforts of the bursary campaign and the support from its benefactors has made it possible to provide financial assistance for some 80 students, the great majority of whom receive support at a level of 90% or above. In September 2001, we welcomed our first group of girls into the Sixth Form and girls have been represented in all year groups since 2008; they now comprise 46% of the school. In addition to its reputation for academic excellence, the school also enjoys a wide range of excellent resources and facilities, and its accommodation has been extensively rebuilt and refurbished in recent years. We recently completed our multi-million building and development programme, Project XL, which will take the school forward to the year 2040 with outstanding facilities matched by few independent day schools. In September 2019, phase 3 of Project XL opened. The building is home to a new state-of-the-art library, art studios, maths classrooms, a pastoral suite and an assembly space. January 2020 saw the opening of our new Sixth Form centre - the combination of the old sixth form and old library into a modern, and much larger area.

The Grammar School At Leeds
The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) is a leading independent school for boys and girls aged 2-18. Our campus is a greenfield site at Alwoodley Gates in north Leeds, well-placed for families from across North and West Yorkshire. Under our ‘diamond model’ structure, children learn in single sex classes from ages 11 to 16, while benefiting from shared form time and co-curricular activities. In 2024 81% of A-level grades awarded to GSAL students were at A* to B and 95% of leavers progressed to higher education. 71% of GCSE grades were at 7 or above. With employers looking for specific skills and attributes as well as knowledge of the business world, we support our pupils’ personal development and team working through a wide range of enhancement opportunities. Pupils undertake work experience in Year 11, whilst our sixth form students participate in our Aspire programme, including voluntary work and taught courses, alongside their A-level studies to prepare them for life after school. They can take part in the Leeds Enterprise Advisory Programme (LEAP). Many activities are student driven to provide leadership opportunities. The Extended Project Qualification enables pupils to develop research skills and self-motivation. With over pupils and 470 staff, we are a major employer and a significant local business with a turnover of over £25 million. We invest over £1m a year in bursaries to support pupils from a wide range of backgrounds. The GSAL Business Networking Group is a forum for our parents and associates, whether self-employed or working in SMEs, industry or the professions, to share ideas and build contacts. To see opportunities to join our team of committed and professional teaching and support staff, visit and click the jobs tab. The strength and diversity of the region’s economy contributes to GSAL’s success, and we are proud of our role in developing talented young people who will ensure that our region continues to thrive.

Thomas Deacon Academy
The Thomas Deacon Academy that we know today opened in 2007 as one of the UK’s first and largest academies. Whilst a building does not make a school, it is worth noting that Thomas Deacon Academy was designed by Norman Foster and Partners and in addition to our impressive main academy our beautiful 43-acre campus includes TDA Juniors - a modern, light and purpose-built Key Stage 2 facility - and expansive playing fields and sporting facilities. In September 2018, a new extension to the existing main building led to new accommodation being created for a sixth form study centre, refectory expansion and staff professional learning centre. Moving forward, our core purpose for the Academy is: “To ensure that each student acquires the necessary knowledge, skills and character to make a positive contribution to society and ‘thrive’ as a global citizen. The Academy’s core purpose is supported by our six pillars of character which provide the foundations for our TDA Way. Our character values are: Curiosity, Commitment, Courage, Compassion, Confidence and Courtesy. In September 2019, TDA received a very positive Ofsted report, judging the academy to be Good overall. Ofsted commented favourably, amongst other things, on the overall leadership of the academy, good teaching, positive relationships between staff and students and students’ behaviour. The Sixth Form was graded as ‘Good’ and recognised as a strength of the Academy. These aspects of the academy have been maintained alongside the identified areas for development being addressed.

Warminster School
Life at Warminster is a busy one, filled with academic and co-curricular activity, discovery and adventure. Our aim is simple: to inspire a life-long love of learning in those around us. So every day we use our expertise, ingenuity and enthusiasm to do just that. All children enjoy and are good at something; a school's job is to help them find and nurture their talents. Our experienced teaching staff continually encourage academic aspiration and learning. We strongly believe that a passion pursued now will offer untold opportunities for the future. Every child is encouraged to aspire academically and to enjoy their learning. We are proud that our pupils not only fulfil their academic potential but are challenged to develop an intellectual curiosity and to have lively minds. These are habits that last a lifetime. Young people today face an unpredictable world but there are certain timeless aspects of a genuine education. We place strong emphasis on character and values and we want our pupils to leave as well-rounded, well-mannered, self-confident, articulate and fundamentally decent people with a sense of duty and integrity. Pastoral care is the most important aspect of any school: a child who is happy and feels safe can flourish and Warminster is committed to providing a secure and supportive pastoral environment. Living and learning with each other requires good social skills and we also place strong emphasis on the importance of ‘social learning’, along with qualities such as tolerance, patience and compassion. We offer a wide range of co-curricular opportunities and foster a culture of enthusiasm, optimism and ‘getting stuck in’. We prepare our pupils for life beyond school - at university and in the world of work. Most of all, though, we are a community, in which each boy and girl is valued and nurtured on the basis of who they are, whatever their age, natural gifts or background.
