Medical Excellence Japan
Medical Excellence JAPAN (MEJ) is a general incorporated association established in 2011 with the support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as the core organization driving Japan’s international healthcare policy. Since its establishment, MEJ has undertaken a wide range of initiatives, including dispatching public-private missions, particularly to emerging countries, and supporting overseas business development through subsidy programs. In response to requests from countries seeking Japan’s advanced medical technologies, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, human resource development, and other healthcare services, MEJ also provides a platform to facilitate business development. As of 2023, MEJ partners with 45 member companies, primarily in the fields of medical devices and healthcare services, and 44 member medical institutions. Also working in close partnership with the Japanese government (Cabinet Secretariat, METI, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan Tourism Agency), the medical community, and the healthcare industry, MEJ promotes diverse international healthcare collaborations. We are an impact led social enterprise. Our mission is to stop the spread of infectious diseases to people in places with limited access to sanitation. Globally 2.3 billion people lack access to basic toilet facilities. Unless properly treated, waste can pollute rivers, wells and other water drinking sources, increasing the risk of spreading infectious diseases. We strongly believe protecting people and the environment is the best investment for the future. Making safe sanitation available to all is Goal 6 of the SDGs. We have invented a special treatment agent to disinfect human waste and remove malodours whilst reducing C02 emissions. Backed by 32 patents, our products can provide solutions in multiple situations: 1. Serve as an emergency toilet during disasters and in remote areas. Handle waste disposal at construction sites, hospitals and in refugee camps. Contribute to preventing the spread of infectious diseases. And the waste can be used as compost and grow food and therefore our products are a part of the circular economy. Currently we are working on multiple projects in Japan and Uganda.
