Public Health And Disability Services Sierra Leone
Public Health and Disability Services Sierra Leone (PHDS_SL) is a National Non-Government Organization formed in January 2023 by a group of Sierra Leoneans who have acquired requisite skills in the field of development and are now Professionals with a wealth of experience from home and abroad in the field. PHDS–SL is duly registered with the Ministry of Development and Economic Planning (MODEP), the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Ministry of Health, and the Sierra Leone Association of Non – Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO). During this period this Organization is extending collaborative relationships with the local councils in Freetown and all other districts in the country. This makes PHDS-SL unique in its operations as it intends to cover the whole country with this new development model to foster learning and expansion. Sierra Leone is still groping with huge Public Health concerns and with a huge number of persons with various disability concerns. These issues were exacerbated by the eleven years of internal conflict which ended in 2002. In recent times the country has been hit by two pandemic diseases (Ebola and COVID-19) which to a large extent were propelled by unsatisfactory public health practices. The poor marginalized as well as the disabled were the hardest hit. These two situations disrupted the livelihood activities of all the people especially the disabled who are unskilled with limited livelihood options. PHDS-SL will identify and directly respond to the public health and disability determinants as a primary focus while paying leverage to livelihood support to other marginalized persons in communities. The organization will plan to mobilize funds to implement, document, and conduct learning for sustainability and scaling up best practices.
