Sponsor Medic
Sponsor Medic (NPC) aims to enhance healthcare services for South Africans reliant on government facilities by addressing chronic under-servicing in the strained state healthcare system. As a unique non-profit & public benefit organization, we use donations to deploy locum doctors to understaffed state health facilities, working to improve national well-being. Need: Health departments in all SA provinces face an alarming scenario, with an R8.7 billion wage shortage, equating to vacant positions. This shortage results from significant budget cuts & affects medical consults, surgeries, supplies & services. The freezing of posts blocking new hires further exacerbates the challenge of healthcare provision. Core Service: Sponsor Medic manages a network of independent locum doctors & coordinating their placement in public healthcare facilities on a needs basis. We triage facility requests, collect impact metrics, & monitor key performance indicators to optimize the efficacy of each Rand spent. Where We Work: We focus on primary & secondary state healthcare facilities in the greater Cape Town metro area, targeting those with acute staff shortages due to budget reductions. Benefit: Sponsor Medic's initiatives primarily benefit patients through better-staffed clinics, shorter waiting times, & more personalized consultations. Simultaneously, we enhance support for permanent healthcare staff in facilities by addressing intense patient loads & fostering camaraderie. This in turn reduces the risk of staff burnout & depression, ultimately leading to improved patient care. Funding: To sustain our service, funding is crucial. Sponsor Medic's NPO registration is underway & have Q1 of 2024 as our target launch date to deploy our first locums to healthcare facilities in the Cape Town Metro. We are looking for donors & partners in health who align with our vision & who will recognise the impact that Sponsor Medic will bring to healthcare in South Africa.

Uluntu Health
While our lead analyst studied for her MCATs in benchmarking general understanding of the human body and then Public Health Economics and Policy through LSE a highlight was the substantial market failure, hugely prevalent in South Africa - the gap between a patient's knowledge of their health needs and their physician's experience and understood depth of knowledge. Patients need to be empowered through basic vital checks and understanding as (m)EdTech - starting in school, to offices and beyond. Suppliers need integrated geo-mapping and available tenders from patient groups. We're starting to understand how our team of data enthusiasts, hopeful problem solvers can address these two models head-on, and look forward to more "eureka" moments along the way seen goal being assistance of team leaders within the NHI landscape.
