Bombela Concession Company
In 2006, the Bombela Concession Company was appointed by the Gauteng Provincial Government to design, build, operate, maintain and partially finance the Gautrain project. The Gautrain project is a Public-Private-Partnership that includes a 15 year contract for the maintenance and operation of the Gautrain rapid rail system. The Bombela Concession Company implements its obligations through diverse contractual relationships with the primary contract being the Concession Agreement, which is held between the Gauteng Provincial Government and the Bombela Concession Company. The Bombela Concession Company contracted with specialised entities to design, construct and operate aspects of the Gautrain rapid rail system. The Bombela Concession Company strives to achieve excellence in the execution of our contract with the Gauteng Provincial Government and to be recognised as a world leader in concession management. We aim to achieve this through consistently delivering a safe, clean and reliable integrated public transport system – The Gautrain. Together with the Bombela Operating Company, we have shown that this vision can be achieved. The Gautrain commenced operation in 2010 and to date we have transported in excess of 60 million passengers on the Gautrain system. With an average punctuality of 98.4%, the Gautrain is one of the most reliable passenger train services in the world – an achievement that we are exceptionally proud of.

RSR was established in terms of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, No 16 of 2002 (“the Act”) as amended, to establish a national regulatory framework for South Africa and to monitor and enforce compliance in the rail sector. The primary legislative mandate of the RSR is to oversee and enforce safety performance by all railway operators in South Africa, including those of neighbouring States whose rail operations enter South Africa.

Sasre The South African Society For Railway Engineering
SASRE (pronounced ‘sass-ray’) is the South African Society for Railway Engineering. SASRE is an ECSA-recognised voluntary association founded in 1932 with the aim to promote the exchange of knowledge between, broaden the experience and increase the effectiveness of its members, with particular emphasis on railway engineering subjects and associated technologies. Our membership includes - but is not limited to - engineers, technicians, technologists and artisans working in civil, electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering, as well as those working in transport and logistics and at companies that supply and support the rail industry. Gibela Engineering Research Chair
The Gibela Engineering Research Chair at Stellenbosch University is a dynamic research group, sponsored by the Gibela Rail Consortium. Gibela has been contracted by the South African Government to manufacture, maintain and support 600 X’trapolis MEGA trains to renew the fleet of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa. The Chair aims to create a niche in monitoring applications and asset management technologies for the Gibela X’Trapolis Mega trains by combining the potential of sensors, data, models and analytics in digital services.
