Vagono-remonten zavod - Karlovo" PLC, mostly known as VRZ Karlovo, was established in 1964 with principal business activities in maintenance and repairs of freight wagons / railcars and production of spare parts. Over the past few years, the company added to its portfolio and design and manufacturing of freight wagons for the Bulgarian and European markets - railcars type Sgnss (container wagon), Zas/Zaes/Zacns (tank wagons for ligh and heavy petroleum products, acids), tanks ( replacement ), custom design wagons, different types of frames, rolling stock and many other. VRZ Karlovo have implemented ISO9001 quality system, certificates for RID classes 3,6.1, 8 and additionally have certified welding procedures via EN15085/DIN6700 and qualified welding teams and engineers.

The factory was founded in 1941 as a railway-carriage repair workshop. It main purpose was to perform average repairs of passenger and freight wagons. In 1983 was built the first workshop for repair and assembly of wheel-sets in Bulgaria. Up to the present moment Septemvri plant is the only enterprise in the country to produce and repair wheel-sets. On 24th June Vagonoremonten Zavod part of BDZ, became 100% private company VRZ-99 A.D. Septemvri with less than 300 workers, after successful privatization. In our days, close to 700 people, the plant has increased its yearly turnover more than 25 times.
