Centre For Physical Activity Research

Copenhagen Centre For Health Research In The Humanities Core
Copenhagen Centre of Health Research in the Humanities (CoRe) is a research centre based at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen. The researchers at CoRe study the culture-analytical and historical aspects of health and illness in everyday life as well as the production of knowledge on health and illness. The centre consists of interdisciplinary researchers who work on a variety of projects that focus on e.g. ageing, welfare technology, illnesses, lifestyle, obesity and diet. Full researcher profile including publications can be found via the link below: https://core.ku.dk/employees/ Over the past several decades, the health of populations has become a central concern for Western societies, and the role of lifestyle is increasingly positioned as crucial in improving health. This focus puts emphasis on the need for a humanistic perspective on food, ageing, and lifestyle interventions. Our research is connected to three large interdisciplinary projects, which centre on three main tracks- Lifestyle and interventions: We specialise in studying the everyday practices of activity and obesity, and the possible effects of lifestyle changes on human health- Ageing and the life course: We research how ageing is practised in different communities, and contribute to new welfare solutions and insights about ageing societies- Food, diet and eating: We explore past and present practices, products, policies, and consumption patterns. Within these tracks, we contribute knowledge that is grounded in everyday socio-cultural practices. With the use of ethnological and historical methods, our research bridges science, policy, and everyday practices, and thus works to improve the future health of populations.

Center For Evolutionary Hologenomics
Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics study how interaction between genes and microbes determine biological evolution. The Center is directed by Professor Tom Gilbert and is part of the GLOBE Institute. The Danish National Research Foundation has funded the establishment of this new basic research center at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics will develop and implement state of the art 'omics and associated computational techniques, and address through experimental and theoretical research, four fundamental questions about life on earth- WHAT is the relationship between a host’s genome and the functional and taxonomic makeup of its associated microbial metagenome- DOES this relationship explain ongoing ecological and evolutionary processes in the host- COULD this relationship provide an alternate explanation to some of life’s big transitions- HOW have we humans exploited this relationship?

Center For Sundhedsforskning
