The Surveying Programmes (Bedrock Geology, Quaternary Geology, Marine Geology and Geophysics) are long-term, and feed information to the Applied Programmes, as well as producing maps and reports used directly by a wide range of external customers. The Applied Programmes (Groundwater, Minerals, Geotechnical, Geological Heritage) are largely project-oriented, and provide solutions to specific customer needs, their various activities helping to build their respective databases. Recurrent UTIs are more common than you think- 7 million females experience a UTI each year in the USA - 30-44% will have a UTI recurrence - 1 in 2 females will experience a UTI in their lifetime - 85% of all UTI diagnoses are in females - UTI is the most common adult bacterial infection globally - Standard UTI testing is inaccurate in at least 50% of cases -$1Billion is spent annually on UTI healthcare in the USA alone Although the inaccuracies of standard UTI testing methods are well documented, guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of recurrent and chronic UTI are virtually non-existent. The inadequacy of guidelines and testing has created a two-pronged problem- Practitioners do not have the resources or guidance required to assist females stuck in the cycle of chronic UTI - Females who suffer from recurrent and chronic UTI are left with long term, debilitating symptoms, and no hope for permanent treatment At Live UTI Free we recognize the need for better access to information on both sides of this equation, and we strive to provide an actionable resource for females to pursue better testing and better treatment. In the process, we are creating the most comprehensive global database of the patient perspective around recurrent and chronic UTI.

It is the academic home of the HRB-supported UCC Cancer Trials Group and the UCC arm of the Blood Cancer Network of Ireland (BCNI). Cancer Research @UCC was originally founded in by the late Professor Gerald O’Sullivan; and was formerly known as the Cork Cancer Research Centre. The Centre was renamed Cancer Research @UCC in 2018. Professor Roisin Connolly was appointed as the Professor Gerald O’Sullivan Chair in Cancer Research in 2019 and Director of Cancer Research @UCC. Biomedical research in the centre is currently focusing on the areas of cancer biology (autophagy & cell death), the microbiome, synthetic biology, precision oncology clinical trials and cancer outcomes research.

We offer our members the potential for matched research funding through the Joint Funding Scheme, run in partnership with the Health Research Board. We also run the Irish Health Research Forum, bringing together all stakeholders to improve health research in Ireland. Rcsi Tissue Engineering Research Group Terg
The RCSI Tissue Engineering Research Group (TERG), 2017's Irish Research Laboratory of the Year, is a large multidisciplinary research group focused on the development of cell and advanced biomaterial-based strategies for the repair and regeneration of various tissues. Based in the Dept. of Anatomy, we also work closely with the School of Pharmacy and Molecular & Cellular Therapeutics (MCT) Departments in RCSI and with the Centre for Bioengineering (TCBE) in Trinity College Dublin. TERG is also part of the €58million Advanced Materials and BioEngineering Research (AMBER) Centre which is focused on developing advanced next generation materials and medical devices in partnership with industry. Specifically, our research focuses on the development of natural polymer (such as collagen) scaffold-based therapeutics for tissue engineering with target applications in bone, cartilage, skin, cardiovascular, corneal, respiratory and neural tissues. A major focus of ongoing research has been to functionalise these scaffolds for use as delivery systems for biomolecules with a particular interest in the delivery of nucleic acids (pDNA, siRNA and miRNA) to enhance their therapeutic potential. We also investigate the use of these scaffolds as advanced 3D pathophysiology in vitro systems for drug development and for studying cellular crosstalk in co-cultures and understanding disease states in cancer, angiogenesis, immunology & infection. In addition, we study the response of living cells to mechanical stimuli (mechanobiology) and investigate how biophysical stimuli can regulate stem cell differentiation.

The Research and Education Foundation (REF) at Sligo University Hospital (SUH), a registered charity, was set up in 1991 to support training, education and research in health care in SUH and its catchment area. The Research Ireland Centre for Research Training in Machine Learning is designed to address the urgent industry demand for machine learning talent. We train academically outstanding, industry-ready PhD graduates in tightly connected cohorts. These graduates will be future leaders managing the disruption that machine learning is causing across industry and society.
