Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR) is the cornerstone of research and training in nuclear science and technology in Jordan. It is a 5 megawatt nuclear reactor, with capacity to be increased to 10 megawatts, and is considered one of the most advanced research reactors in the world, with its state-of-the-art nuclear control and safety systems. The reactor provides a strong platform for training and scientific research for students of nuclear engineering and other nuclear sciences, engineers and technicians to operate, maintain and develop nuclear reactors. It is also used to produce medical and industrial radioisotopes to support nuclear applications in the fields of medicine, agriculture, water and industry within Jordan and beyond. The Marine Science Station (MSS) is an inter-university research institute that belongs to the University of Jordan and Yarmouk University, founded in mid 1970s and focuses on the marine and coastal environmental research. The main objectives of establishing the MSS is to create a marine research platform for scientist and postgraduate students, especially scientists coming from abroad, who are interested in studying the tropical-subtropical marine ecosystem. The MSS now is a comprehensive and integrated research center for marine sciences in a broader sense, having until 2017 hosting more than 40 scientific research projects in addition to more than 50 marine studies and more than 500 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals.
