The Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research (IMR) is a world class research facility looking at ways to improve the health of the people of Papua New Guinea. The Institute was established in 1968 as a statutory body. It is governed by a 6-member council that reports to the Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS. It is headed by the Director, supported by two deputy directors for science and corporate affairs. IMR’s research targets malaria, pneumonia, filariasis, respiratory disease, sexual health, malnutrition and much more. We employ more than 500 staff – many are national and international experts in their fields.

Png Centre Of Renewable Energy
The University of Papua New Guinea Centre of Renewable (CoRE) energy was set up in 2017 to build much-needed human capacity through research, education, awareness, and advocacy for the uptake of sustainable energy technologies in PNG. To sustain, support and inform the Centre’s primary goal, we also consult in various energy projects in areas of capacity building, baseline surveys, environment & social impact assessments and identify context-specific challenges. Though relatively new and with a few contributing members we have been able to implement a few projects in the last couple of years, and have actively engaged with some of the main energy sector stakeholders such as DPE, PPL, CCDA, UNDP, ESIP/DFAT and WB/IFC to assist in developing the sector in Papua New Guinea.
