Central European Academy

The Central European Academy (CEA), which is committed to supporting comparative law in Central Europe began its work on the 1st of January 2022. The aims of the Academy are to manage large-scale research and training projects in Central European countries, addressing both legal professionals and young people interested in the field. In order to achieve its goals, CEA operates the Central European Professors' Network, organizes international scientific conferences and webinars, provides scientific publication opportunities, and creates and manages online professional interfaces. As a result of its activities, the Academy is confident that, in addition to improving the quality of domestic legislation, it will be able to create and support a widely acknowledged professional network involving Central European countries. Activities of the Academy In order to achieve its goals, the Central European Academy shall carry out the following tasks: Central European Professors Network With the active participation of seven countries (the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia), the Professors' Network carries out comprehensive international academic activity in the field of comparative law, with about 35 main researchers per year, organised in four research groups, on a variety of topics. Central European Junior Programme Our Academy runs the Central European Junior Programme English-language PhD, a training and internship programme in cooperation with the Faculty of Law of the University of Miskolc. The traineeship programme is open to law graduates who are interested in comparative law, motivated and committed to achieving an academic degree. Central European Academic Publishing The Academy's priority is to ensure the publication and distribution of high-quality legal journals and books, for which purpose it operates the Central European Academic Publishing (CEA Publishing).

Constitutional Discourse

Constitutional Discourse is an initiative of young researchers brought to life by the politicized atmosphere of the European constitutional dimension. European Integration has always been a playing field of political conflict, where the necessary consensus moved the integration process forward from time to time (e.g. the Luxembourg Compromise itself). A special place where dissenting parties and the positions they form have clashed in the past and still clash to this day, albeit these parties are not enemies merely opponents, having everyone leave negotiations with a little more they came with. In recent years, however, we have witnessed a radicalization of positions. Increasingly, those who take a stand are losing the ability to accept that the standpoints of those who voice opposing views are valid and represent values similar to theirs, and that we could only build a stable, united Europe if we don’t engage in ‘mutually assured destruction’. When Constitutional Discourse was created, our fundamental idea was that we should continue to consider the nation and national sovereignty as the cornerstone of the European integration process. These are essential attributes on which a united Europe can and must be built, because Europe must exist on a solid foundation, as a house which is built on rock(s). Along with all of this, we wanted to create a platform for constructive debate, of European, constitutional discourse, while accepting the verity of the fact that there are no mutually exclusive truths. The Constitutional Discourse blog has been created and is edited by the Editorial Board in the above spirit. It is a free platform through which anyone can express their professional views on European constitutional issues in accordance with the editorial principles set out in our Submission Guidelines.

Corruption Research Center Budapest

The Corruption Research Center Budapest was created in November 2013 in response to the growing need for independent research on corruption and quality of government in Hungary. Hence, the Center was established as a non-partisan research institute independent of governments, political parties or special interest groups. It is initially financed by the founders, but also from private donations and EU and government research funds. The aims of the Center are to systematically explore the causes, characteristics, and consequences of low quality of government, corruption, and regulatory failure using an inter-disciplinary approach. In addition, the Center also aims to help citizens to hold governments accountable through the use of robust evidence. Our unique research approach combines qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse micro-level actor behaviour and it generates novel hard data on the phenomena under scrutiny.
