Sidra Institute
The Somali Institute for Development Research and Analysis (SIDRA) was established in 2013 and officially launched on Sunday the 26th of July 2015 by the Vice-President of Puntland during a festive launching ceremony held at PSU Garowe. About 200 distinguished guests attended the festive launching ceremony including government officials, civil society members, members from women’s groups, youth groups, Somali diaspora, academia, representatives from INGOs, local council members, Somali intellectuals, and representatives of local institutes participated in the event. SIDRA is a registered independent, not-for-profit research and policy analysis Think Tank based in Puntland, Somalia. It became fully functional in July of 2015. SIDRA is a research and think-tank organization which was established in 2013 by a group of intellectuals and development practitioners who felt the need to establish such an institution would inform on how best respond to the interest of the Somali people. Our present vision is Somalia in which social justice prevails and inclusive economic growth benefits to all and improves the wellbeing of the people. Filling strategic policy gaps, shaping dialogue and development SIDRA Institute is therefore a knowledge-policy interface established to fill the strategic gaps of shaping and dialoguing a whole range of policy agendas and in generating and communicating relevant research findings to policy actors in Somalia. SIDRA has developed a 3-year Strategic Research Plan and in the next three years the institute will focus on the following thematic areas in order to contribute to ongoing development transformations in Somalia: 1. Governance and Democracy (G&D) 2. Security and The Rule of Law 3. Peace through Business Development 4. Sustainable Environment and Natural Resources Management 5. Education Management and Institutional Capacity Enhancement 6. Gender and Women’s Empowerment

OK Somalia is part of the Open Knowledge Foundation non-profit network focused on open data. OK Foundation advocates for helping civil society to access and use data and to solve social problems. OK International provides tools and Technologies for open data users to analyze and visualize data. OK Somalia is started by a group of Tech savvies passionate about Semantic web and big data and openness of knowledge and information. We advocate through community forms, awareness campaigns, innovative training to solve social issues and enable people to understand open data and create, manage and share knowledge.

Established in May 2022 by Dr. Mubarak Ahmed Mohamed (MBBS) and Dr. Saed Ahmed Sulub (PhD), ARDAA is the first institute of its kind in the region, striving to become the leading center for rigorous research and analysis that shapes informed policymaking and public discourse. Our mission is to bridge the gap in scholarly literature on Somaliland and the broader Horn of Africa, contributing to national and regional development through evidence-based research. By providing insightful, data-driven analysis, ARDAA seeks to address pressing societal challenges, support informed decision-making, and foster sustainable progress.
