Lovereading
Reading books changes lives. Now buying books through the LoveReading online bookstore can change lives, too. LoveReading, the UK’s leading book recommendation website, has launched an online bookshop with social purpose, in response to the book funding crisis in schools – in a move that’s been praised by the New Children’s Laureate. Launched 17 years ago, LoveReading and LoveReading4Kids have since become a staple for readers looking for their next book. Now, they have relaunched, enabling readers the ability to purchase books directly from the site, with 25% of the cover price being donated to a school, delivering better outcomes for the UK’s children. Readers will also receive 10% off the RRP on a huge selection of titles. Recent research by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education found that the school funding crisis means that 60% of classrooms have no access to a budget for new books. Studies also show that reading and writing are key to unlocking a child’s learning potential and allows them to overcome a disadvantaged background. Offering a socially conscious way to buy books online, LoveReading’s new venture will allow book buyers to actively support their local school. For books ordered and directly allocated to a particular school, the school will receive 25% of the cover price from each sale. When a sale is made and not attributed to a specific school, 10% of the cover price will go into a pot that will then be split between LoveReading’s school members, prioritising a percentage for schools in particular need and supporting pupils in deprived areas. Go on, buy a book, support a school and make a difference. Because books change lives.

Backstory
Set up in Balham in October 2022 by former journalist Tom Rowley, Backstory is all about celebrating the story behind each story.the backstory. That’s why there’s a long bar and comfy chairs all along one side of our bookshop in south London. We want to encourage browsers to linger over a coffee or a glass of wine, to share bookish conversation with friends new and old - and to leave not only with books, but with stories of their own to tell. It’s also why events are at the heart of what we do. We host author talks most weeks, delving deeper into the backstory behind a new release. And why not join us at one of our regular live music nights, where words of a different kind come to life? If you’re not local to London, you can join our thriving literary community. Our two book clubs - fiction and non-fiction - are held monthly on Zoom, so you can take part from anywhere in the world. Better still, the author of the book joins each discussion. Or we’d be delighted to bring the Backstory experience directly to you with one of our tailored book subscriptions. We have so much fun picking out the perfect books for each of our subscribers. Head to backstory.london for more info or follow us on Instagram @backstory.london

Moon Lane
Moon Lane includes four physical bookshops, a school supply and book consultancy, annual literary festivals and a wide range of other initiatives promoting a life-long love of books. Moon Lane believes that the lack of diversity in the UK publishing industry leads to a singular dominant voice in our cultural conversation, limiting empathy, understanding, integration and social mobility. We work to address this by bridging the gap between the UK’s brilliantly diverse population and UK publishing, in order to ensure that every child sees themselves represented in our children’s book ranges. Our initiatives include highlighting and celebrating the work of authors and illustrators from under-represented groups, ensuring a route to market for more diverse titles, working closely with schools in our communities to drive the vital conversation about inclusion in children’s books, and creating opportunities for young people from a more diverse range of backgrounds, to access careers in bookselling and publishing.

Laurel Tree Books
Since 2021 we have provided thousands of quality secondhand books a new home with a keen reader. Secondhand books are so much more than just an old story written by an author. The jacket, cover and pages contain their own histories from their previous owners. And who can deny the smell of old books is nothing but comforting. Whether it’s vintage, antique, rare, or a recent printing, secondhand books give people the chance to fill their homes with stories that are imaginary, informative or personal. And secondhand bookstores provide an opportunity to browse and stumble across something you would never be able to find elsewhere. Our ultimate goal is to absolutely delight someone with a book. At Laurel Tree Books, we aim to heavily curate a selection of books to appeal to the curious, the weirdos, the intrigued and the obsessed. We try to stock a wide variety of genres, but we do have a focus on science fiction and non-fiction (at the moment). Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about our stock or if you would like to request a book. Additionally, if you have books that you would like to offload, we are happy to take them off your hands if you live in the Fife or Edinburgh area! Email us at enquiries@laureltreebooks.co.uk.

Curiousbeebooks
Discover a world where stories empower children and embrace neurodiversity. The books are designed for adults to read to children. They are engaging, enjoyable and informative for all ages, and are meant to prompt discussion. They are written with the intention of informing adults and children about neurodiversity and behaviour traits, with tips and ideas of how to help too. They answer a lot of questions which parents ask when they come to my therapy and parenting sessions with their children. My books are written in simple enjoyable story form and explore some of the emotional and behavioural challenges children, and parents, face today. They are an enjoyable read for all ages, exploring themes of ADHD, Autism and dyslexia and more, as well as topics such as anxiety, anger, frustration and grief. I have realised over the past few years in my therapy sessions that many children and parents need more information and support with children who may be on the spectrum. In a world where waiting lists for diagnosis are so long, this inspired me to create a series of books which aim to give an initial insight into individual differences and to suggest helpful tips for families as they battle with knowing what to do and how to help. The books also aim to inform neurotypical people to promote acceptance. I believe there is a need for neurotypical people to understand and accept the differences in all individuals, especially those who are neurodiverse.
