Ceylon - German Technical Training Institute Cgtti - Sri Lanka
Overview The Ceylon-German Technical Training Institute (CGTTI) is the foremost institute in Sri Lanka for the training of skilled technicians in the field of Automobile Engineering and allied trades. The institute was originally established in 1959 at the premises of the central workshops of the Transport Board of Sri Lanka at Werahera. This was a result of an agreement made in 1958 between the government of the Federal Republic of Germany and Sri Lanka to supply training assistance in the maintenance of the bus fleet, which belonged to the Transport Board of Sri Lanka (then Ceylon Transport Board - CTB). The Institute was shifted to Moratuwa in 1974. It was originally organized and managed by a German director and his German staff till February 29th, 1976. Then its management was handed over to a Sri Lanka, Director/Principal, and local staff. The CGTTI was coming under the Ministry of Transport till April 2004. in 2004 this Institute was handed over to the Ministry of Skills Development Vocational and Technical Education. In November 2005 CGTTI was handed over to the Ministry of Skills Development and Public Enterprise Reforms. After that CGTTI was handed over to the Presidential Secretariat. In November 2007 this Institute was handed over to the Ministry of Transport. Presently CGTTI is coming under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development. Nature of Training Full-time day courses cover the following trades under the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) training scheme and the duration of which is given against each course: Automobile Mechanic – 4 years Millwright Fitter – 4 years Electrician (Maintenance) – 3 ½ years Air Conditioning & Refrigeration – 3 ½ years Machinist (General) – 3 ½ years Diesel Mechanic – 3 years Electrician (Automobile) – 3 years Welder – 3 years Motor Vehicle Body Repair & Painter – 3 years All training courses consist of 80% practicals in workshops and laboratories and 20% theory in classrooms.

University College Of Kuliyapitiya
University college of Kuliyapitiya established under Ministry of Youth affairs and Skill Development will jointly provide infrastructure facilities to provide better technology education for those who had completed their school education. The college has a separate special ordinance in University of vocational training act of 2014. The university college caters to university dropouts and well as NVQ 4 level qualified professionals. It conducts NVQ level 05 and 06 courses and future if student wish to continue studies can join to the university of vocational training (UNIVOTEC) or college has empowered to conduct degree course. The structure of college almost same as conventional universities in Sri Lanka and entry qualification for academic staff and other higher post is same. The college conducts 09 courses, 07 are technical. The college builds from the loan, therefore most of the labs equipped with latest EQUIPMENTand apparatus. There is a small fee structure has been introduced which can pay in installments. The students from Samurdhi and low-income families are exempted from the fees. All the courses are 03 years except Drafting Technology and students have to pay only for two years. In parallel to the academic activities college aiming to play a significant role in academic/Professional society in Sri Lanka E.G. NASTEC, SLAAS, IESL etc.So the university college has many similarities to the conventional university of the country.
