Skytel (Sky telecommunications) is a Mongolian corporate of information technology companies, headquartered at Skytel Plaza in Chinggis avenue, Ulaanbaatar. In terms of subscribers, Skytel is the 3rd largest mobile telephone services provider with a quarter of the market share. As of 2021, Skytel was ranked 68th largest company in Mongolia by the composite of revenues, profits, assets and taxes. Skytel Group was founded in and was a joint venture between Mongolian and Korean firms. Unitel Group
Unitel (Universal telecommunications) is a Mongolian Corporate Group of IT companies. Unitel Corporation was founded on December 23, 2005 as BSB consortium as GSM mobile phone operator, and began operations on June 26th of 2006. The company was renowned with its unique marketing and innovative products. Unitel provides mobile phone, internet, IPTV and communication satellite. Unitel is group of the six subsidiary IT companies of MCS group. MCS, Mongolian largest private held organization currently owns the major share of Unitel. Unitel is a second largest mobile operator in terms of subscriber base in Mongolia. Its revenue, profits and revenue per subscriber (ARPU) figures are slightly lower than competitor MobiCom, however is steadily gaining. Within its initial year Unitel acquired 200 thousand subscribers, probably the biggest acquisition in one year in Mongolian telecommunication history so far. In 2009 Unitel launched its 3G network on HSDPA 2100 Mhz. Unitel network covers approximately 83% of total population of Mongolia. In November 2010 Unitel declared that it has become 100% indigenous company (i.e. Mongolian share owners bought all share from the Korean side). In 2011 Unitel merged with other IT subsidiary companies of MCS group and officially changed its status as corporate group.

DDishTV LLC was established to re-broadcast national channels via satellite and starting from June 2008 it begun to broadcast first six television channels. We have opened the opportunity to view more than ten television channels for the nomadic families in the countryside. Prior to DDishTV existence there were only six television channels, which were being broadcasted as four channels a day by rotation. According to the contract with Communications Regulatory Commission, our company is to broadcast ten television channels, which’s names are to be provided by the government of Mongolia. As of today, we are the only operating company that is providing 18 channels to the countryside viewers in Mongolia with 15 national and three international channels. We also broadcast two Mongolian National Radio channels and two radio channels of our own.

On 22nd March 2019, the first official MNNOG meeting was held at CSMS (Computer Science and Management School) with 30 participants from 20 different organizations including Mongolian internet service providers, research and education center, information and telecommunication universities. Mr.Tashi Phuntsho from APNIC participated remotely from Brisbane, Australia shared his experience of establishing NOG`s in other countries. The agenda for the meeting was: Introduction to NOGs (Network Operators Group), explaining its purpose and operation and benefit to the technical community, and general information of how other national and regional NOGs operate in the Asia Pacific region. Official formation of MNNOG with consensus of meeting participants Discussion on plan of actions for MNNOG 1 event including conference and workshops Forming Program Committee and Coordination teams to organize MNNOG-1 Introducing MNNOG mailing list and its usage guidelines. B. Bayar, from Mobicom presented introduction of NOG and proposed a plan of actions for MNNOG with the high level timeline. Specific details, highlights and experiences of other network operator groups in the region provided by Tashi and were very informative to the meeting participants to understand operation of NOGs and its core teams. Further this information became the foundation of discussion for MNNOG plan of actions. Another important outcome of the event was the formation of PC (program committee) and Coord (coordination) team. The teams were formulated on voluntarily basis considering the roles and will work collaboratively to organize MNNOG 1 in September 2019, after APNIC-48, according to current high level plan.
