Royal Higher Institute For Defence
About the Institute The Royal Higher Institute for Defence (RHID) is the reference body or think tank of the Belgian Ministry of Defence in the field of security and defence. It is also responsible for managing the multiannual programme for scientific and technological research, including the security and defence studies, as well as the scientific research of the Royal Army and Military History Museum. In order to fully accomplish its mission, the RHID has set the objectives of focusing the attention – by identifying research and discussion topics, and themes of interest – as well as deepening and disseminating knowledge. Organizing conferences, colloquia and seminars as well as publishing papers by researchers at the Belgian Ministry of Defence, and the Institute in particular, fully contribute to knowledge transfer. The High Studies for Security and Defence, in the form of a meeting place with seminars and visits, provides training in these fields for high-level staff, both from the ministry and the civil sector. Through national and international partnerships, the RHID has developed an extensive network to exchange ideas and experiences.

The European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE) is an independent and non-profit policy research think tank dedicated to trade policy and other international economic policy issues of importance to Europe. It was founded in 2006 by Fredrik Erixon and Razeen Sally. ECIPE is rooted in the classical tradition of free trade and an open world economic order. Progressive reduction of barriers to the movement of goods, services, capital and people across borders creates prosperity, and improves the conditions for peace, security and individual freedom. But discussion and advocacy of abstract ideas is far from enough. ECIPE’s intention is to subject international economic policy, particularly in Europe, to rigorous scrutiny of costs and benefits, and to present conclusions in a concise, readily accessible form to the European public. We aim to foster a “culture of evaluation” – largely lacking in Europe – so that better public awareness and understanding of complex issues in concrete situations can lead to intelligent discussion and improved policies. The Industrial Hydraulics laboratory from the CRM Group was founded in 1992. From then on, we have been performing services, tests, studies and applied researches for the industry, especially for VSEs and SMEs, in the fields of water and gas technologies. The different Mont Blanc Circles bring together the Seniormost Executives responsible for respectively Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Privacy and Public Affairs. Every Circle meets up twice a year for 1 ½ days at the premises of one of the members and we also organise a number of on demand services. Besides the two-day Retreats we organise each Spring and Fall, the Mont Blanc Circle also provides a series of services and activities allowing the members to share and/or collect best practice information, benchmarking data and peer feedback. Each Circle has a Steering Committee composed of a number of Members, the Moderator/Content Director and the MBC Managing Director. The Steering Committee vets new members, validates the Programmes of the Retreats and the other activities of the Circle. The activities of the Circles and the topics covered are based on the suggestions made by the members and therefore focus on concrete sharing and discussing common concerns. We also involve selected External Speakers who bring value with their expert insights. Last but not least, the Mont Blanc Circle is an independent initiative with no sponsors or vendors involved.

To do so, it is critical to adhere to high standards of both precision and objectivity. We employ academic methods in analysing the information, ensuring that the data is correct, precise and representative. We are independent, politically-neutral and we present the results of our research in a factual, non-judgemental and non-emotional manner, in order to allow our users to make their own assessments. Where content is being produced using external sources, such as data from other providers, or interviews with / articles by third parties, this will be transparently marked as such. We hold a high respect for professional ethics and personal privacy. Our assessments are based strictly on activities undertaken by decision-makers while publicly exercising their mandate of political representatives. To this end, we use information that is purposely publicized by the public institutions, political representatives or private actors.
