Inspired by a desire to sail around the world, and see the world’s last frontiers, we set off from New Zealand aboard our Dutch Schooner, Adelaar in the spring of 1993. In this year of travel, we visited some of the most remote islands of Southeast Asia. We saw vanishing cultures, heard stories of intrigue, and explored the ocean’s wonders. It was on this round the world tour, that we fell in love with Indonesia. For the next 25 years, our beautiful historic vessel, Adelaar, sailed throughout the vast Indonesian archipelago carrying adventurers and marine enthusiasts from all over the world. Doulos Phos
Launched in 1914, as a freighter named after the river Medina in USA, she was converted to a passenger ship named SS Roma in 1948. So from transporting onions as a freighter, she moved on to transporting pilgrims. Yet another change saw her being transformed in 1953 to become MS Franca C. Run by Costa Lines, she was the world’s first all-first-class passenger ship. Arguabily the most prominent part of her till-then history was when in 1977 she was purchased by Operation Mobilization, renamed MV Doulos, and in her thirty two years as MV Doulos, saw her claim the Guinness Book of Records accolade of being the world’s oldest active ocean going passenger ship. A new and vastly different chapter in her history saw her being retired from sailing in 2010, bought over by Biznaz Resources International Pte Ltd and being fully dry berthed to become a ship hotel. A rebirth, a new name, and a new mission. When she reopens her decks in 2019 in the lovely island of Bintan, Indonesia, at age 104 as DOULOS PHOS THE SHIP HOTEL, surely she will be the talk of the town all over again. A new chapter in the life of a truly remarkable ship.

Indonesian Tourist Guide Association
Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA) was established as a result of Himpunan Duta Wisata Indonesia (HWDI) Convention at Pertamina Cottages Kuta Beach on March 27, 1983. This first national convention was initiated by Joop Ave, former Minister for Tourism, Post and Telecommunication of Republic of Indonesia. The convention was attended by nine provincial guide association and Bali Guide Association as the host. During the Second Convention on October 5, 1988 at Palembang, South Sumatera, HDWI had been replaced into Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia (HPI). Hence, HPI is the official association of tourist guides in Indonesia. The National Board of HPI so called Dewan Pimpinan Pusat (DPP), Provincial Board is Dewan Pimpinan Daerah (DPD) and Regency Board is Dewan Pimpinan Cabang (DPC). Indonesian Tourist Guide Association is a non-profit, non-political organization of licensed and individual tourist guides. The organization main purpose is to bind, ensure and promote the tourist guides are recognized as the ambassadors of the country.
