Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) is an integrated electric utility company and the sole distributor of electricity in Jamaica. The Company is engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, and also purchases power from five Independent Power Producers. In April 2011, Marubeni Corporation entered into a Purchase and Sale Agreement with Korea East-West Power (EWP), for joint ownership of majority shares (80%) in the Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd (JPS). The Government of Jamaica and a small group of minority shareholders own the remaining shares. JPS currently has approximately 603,346 customers who are served by a workforce of approximately 1,375 employees.The Company owns and operates: 4 power stations, 9 hydroelectric plants, 43 substations and approximately kilometres of distribution and transmission lines. Along with the provision of electricity, JPS is a key partner in national development. The company has a vibrant corporate social responsibility portfolio and makes significant contributions in the areas of education, health and sports. The company also has a strong environmental focus and carries out its operations in an environmentally friendly manner. The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR), is the independent regulatory agency with responsibility for the electricity sector.

Jamaica Private Power Company Ltd
Commissioned since January 1998, Jamaica Private Power Company (JPPC) is an Independent Power Provider (IPP) located within the community of Rockfort, Kingston. JPPC; which has a generating capacity of 60MW, utilizes slow-speed Diesel Engines and Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) to produce electricity for sale to the grid. The plant includes a heat recovery system which converts waste energy into steam that runs a Steam Turbine. This creates a highly efficient system with the maximum amount of energy converted into electrical energy. Leaders in independent power generation Jamaica Energy Partners now manages JPPC, which was recently acquired by InterEnergy who also owns the Doctor Bird Power Plant (Doctor Bird I and II) residing in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, and the West Kingston Power Station located on Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston. The operational design of Jamaica Private Power Company, allows it to produce and sell electricity to the grid at one of the most cost-effective and affordable rates in Jamaica. Over the past 20 years, the company’s success attributes to its promotion of operational efficiency, safety and the hard work and dedication of its employees. JPPC also contributes to the community in which it resides through outreach programmes and social intervention. This business structure positions JPPC as an essential player in the market and appropriate incorporation to the InterEnergy group. As a result of the acquisition of Jamaica Private Power Company, Jamaica Energy Partners now manages a total capacity of 250 MW in Jamaica, making the company the major independent power suppliers of electricity in Jamaica. In fact, among the three facilities, JEP, JPPC and WKPP, supply approximately 40% of the energy requirements of the national grid.
