Berg Motors
Berg Motors is one of the oldest car dealerships in the Faroe Islands and has been an active part of the Faroese car market since 1960. It all began when Jóhannes Berg in Tórshavn started selling American Rambler cars from American Motors – and founded his own company. Already in 1966, the company received a prestigious award from American Motors for having sold the most Rambler cars relative to the population of the country. In 1967, Berg Motors began selling Mazda cars from Japan, and on March 1, 1968, an agreement was signed for direct import of Mazda vehicles to the Faroe Islands. Sales grew rapidly, and to provide better service to customers in Eysturoy, Berg Motors purchased a car workshop in Glyvrar in the early 1970s. A new facility was later built there. Over the years, the company has also represented several well-known car brands, including Chrysler, Simca, Sunbeam, Plymouth, and Dodge. Later in the 1970s, the headquarters was moved to a new building on Staravegur in Tórshavn, and at that time, Berg Motors also began representing Scania trucks and buses. Since 1993, Berg Motors has been part of the international car rental company Avis, and since 2014 also Budget. In the the dealership expanded to include more brands, such as Suzuki (from 2004), Kia, Subaru, Rover, Daihatsu, and Land Rover (from 2005). Today, Berg Motors represents a wide range of car brands: Suzuki, Subaru, Aiways, JAC Motors, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Fiat, Fiat Professional, and Scania.
