Familia Darabont Winery
In the heart of beautiful Bihor County, Romania, the Darabont family takes care of over 40 hectares of vineyard. Grown with passion, expertise and dedication so that wines made of carefully selected grapes can be on your table. With traditional values, using the latest technologies and lots of devotion. Biharia and Crișana region had been important historic wine regions until politics and the decisions of the agricultural economy interrupted their traditions. In over a century, the lands that once had vines as far as the eye could see, have forgotten about their own past. Until now. Wine culture has once again started to revitalise the slopes of Biharia as more and more producers are working on reigniting the flames of its heritage.

Carastelec Sparkling Winery
Crișana is one of the oldest wine producing regions in Transylvania, close to Măgura Şimleului Mountain which is a crystalline island in North West Transylvania. The region of Carastelec, marked by this Mountain, has a particular soil from which grapes can extract minerals required to make elegant and sophisticated wines full of fineness, fresh and fruity, typical of the varieties cultivated here. And also, this crystalline terroir gives them special personality and typicality. This south-facing “natural amphitheatre” near the village, on the top of a slope, is a real “treasure” hill with a specific microclimate which has been chosen by Tibor Gál, one of Hungary’s leading oenologists, years ago. As with the selection of the site, all decisions have been and continue to be taken with the same thoroughness every day and always the aim of obtaining high-quality products. The compact location of the vines in the immediate neighbourhood of the cellar minimizes the transport of the grapes, thus avoiding their deterioration. The region has a moderate continental climate with average rainfall. The total number of sunshine hours during the growing season is around 1200 to 1600; the annual precipitation is 626 mm, while the temperature in this region is somewhat lower. All these factors lead to a higher acidity of the wines and add to their complexity and personality. Furthermore, this area (47th parallel; altitude: 300 m) is also suitable to produce excellent sparkling wines.

Serve
SERVE - The Legacy… In the 90’s, international wine critics knew about Romania only that this country used to produce wine, at some point in time. And nothing more. Romania used to be a white stain on the wine map and the domestic market oscillated between misleading labels, faulty bottles and stocks of so-called old wines, from “privatized” warehouses. In the past, few wines that haunted the market were semi-dry and semi-sweet, the remaining sugar (or the added sugar, often) being solely intended to cover hygiene deficiencies. This was the environment in which Count Guy de POIX, a corsican passionate about skiing, ventured with a history of generations in wine, both at home, in Corsica after his father (Domaine Peraldi), and in the Champagne area after his mother, the famous Piper-Heidsieck. A series of fortunate events brought together Guy de POIX and Aurel ROTARESCU. Aurel became Guy’s disciple and the one who, as from 1994 until this day, defines the soul of SERVE wines. Guy’s legacy, along with his respect for nature and community, is perpetuated by his wife, Mihaela de POIX, along with Aurel and SERVE team. 28 YEARS OF EXCEPTIONAL WINES SERVE PHILOSOPHY Legacy, Venture, Respect, Community

Crama La Salina
