ABOUT KUZUBAĞ Kuzubağ Estate & Winery was founded in 2007 when we first planted the vineyards in our hometown of Çal Turkey. Conscious of the region’s distinctive terroir and honouring its centuries-old winemaking heritage, we set out slowly to establish an estate showcasing indigenous Turkish grapes as well as classic varietals. After patiently waiting 13 years for the vineyards to mature, we embarked on constructing a square metre contemporary winery discreetly embedded into the landscape at the very heart of the estate. After completion in 2021 we celebrated our first vintage. OUR PHILOSOPHY As a family with deep roots in the land and culture of the region, Kuzubağ aims to respect and connect the vine, the soil and the people. We strive to draw local and international attention to the rich history of our viticulture and highlight the unique character of the grapes in the bottle by producing high quality yet accessible wines. TERROIR CHARACTERISTICS Known as Mossyna in Ancient Greece, the region of Çal is situated in the west of Turkey on a plateau 850 metres above sea level. With the Büyük Menderes River (named after the river-god Maiandros) flowing nearby, the terroir is defined by its distinctive clay-loam and calcareous soil and the wide ranging temperatures between day and night, with average fluctuations of 19°C. All 50 hectares of the estate’s vineyards are within the borders of Çal and are carefully tended throughout the year. The grapes are grown with modern viticultural techniques; using the low yield principle, then harvested by hand before sunrise and gravity-fed processed. Kuzubağ Wines are certified organic. Özkan Ailesi uzun yıllardır Denizli’nin Çal ilçesi’ne bağlı İsabey kasabasında yaşıyor ve Türk şarap üreticilerinin bölgede yetiştirilen başta Çal Karası ve Sultaniye olmak üzere, iyi kalitede üzümlerle buluşmasına aracılık ediyor… Aykut ve Osman Özkan kardeşler, Denizli’nin verimli topraklarındaki potansiyeli değerlendirip, yıllarca emek verdikleri üzüm ticareti ve bağcılığı 2012 yılında bir adım ileri taşıyarak Aykut Özkan Şarap Fabrikası’nı kurdular. İyi kalitede üzümlerden yapılan iyi şarapları ulaşılabilir fiyatlarla sunan Aykut Özkan Şarapçılık, 10 yıllık yolculuğunda Colossae, Yalı, İsabey, Cümbüş ve Lunda gibi markaları ile yurt çapında geniş bir tüketici kitlesinin beğenisini kazandı. Ve şimdi 10 Yaşımızı yerli ve yabancı çeşitler ile yüzlerce dönüm daha bağ tesis ederek kutluyoruz. Binlerce yıldır bağ ve şarapçılık merkezi olan Denizli’nin Çal ilçesi İsabey Kasabası’nda yer alan şaraphanemizde her zaman ileri teknoloji kullanıyor, sürekli daha iyisini yapma arzumuz ve şarapçılık tutkumuzla hem sektöre hem de bölge ekonomisine katkı sağlıyoruz. Çok sevdiğimiz bu topraklarda sevdiğimiz üzümlerden sevdiğimiz şaraplar yapıyoruz… - Özkan Family has been living in Isabey town in the Çal district of Denizli for many years and mediates the meeting of Turkish Wine Producers with good quality grapes, especially Çal Karasi and Sultaniye, which are grown in the Çal region. Based on the potential in these fertile lands, they took the grape trade and viticulture they have worked for many years one step further and established our winery in 2012 under the name of Aykut Özkan Winery. Aykut Özkan Winery which offers good wines made from good quality grapes at accessible prices, has the ear of wide customer group throughout the country with its brands such as Colossae, Yalı, Isabey, Cümbüş and Lunda during its 10-year journey. We make the wines that we love from the grapes we love in these land that we love so much.
