Steel Bones Uk
Steel Bones supports amputee families to live life to the full, overcoming the trauma of amputation. We are a proactive, supportive peer community. Our community is rooted in the work we do at every level and Steel Bones evolves to their needs. Steel Bones has worked with hundreds of families across the UK through our peer support network run by amputee families. Our peer support model and lived experience enables us to make a deep and lasting impact as our service users recognise that only other amputee families truly understand what the experience of amputation is like. Steel Bones was founded in 2015 by a family who were affected by amputation and reluctant to meet other families due to life being so hectic but also afraid to reach out for help as they wanted to exist in their own bubble, no one judged them in their own bubble, it was easier than to accept the crisis they were living within. They were too exhausted with everything going on to realise what support is out there. Carers Trust who were working with the Family suggested to Mum and wife of Amputee, Emma that she should meet others. Emma and Leigh, reluctantly started a facebook group, thinking there will be no other families like us, as they had only found older amputees. However, quite the opposite happened and lots of other young families joined the group. This facebook group triggered everything that has happened in Steel Bones since. Soon the group wanted to meet and thanks to local friends on RAF Mildenhall, who hosted an event, the first ever Celebration Day launched. Since then, the charity has grown organically with the needs of the community it serves. This raw lived experience of Steel Bones’ Founders of feeling forgotten, useless, unvalued, and isolated with nowhere to turn is what drives Steel Bones’ passion to ensure amputee families feel listened to, heard and know they are not alone.

People come to us for youth clubs, children’s activities, school holiday playschemes and residentials, as well as practical support, welfare advice and so much more. We were over the moon when we raised over 3 million pounds to transform our building, bringing vibrant new spaces and exciting opportunities just a stone’s throw from Lime Street station. But soaring inflation has made our building costs spiral. And it’s really important that we don’t scale back our plans. Now you have an opportunity to be part of the regeneration of Liverpool and help our wonderful youth and community centre keep changing lives in Merseyside. Be a part of the Bronte Big Build. With your help we can make sure we build a better Bronte - one that’s ambitious, environmentally sustainable and economically self-sufficient, so it can stand on its own two feet. YouthTheGap is an award-winning, social-impact consultancy and CIC determined to reimagine the possibilities of education and its curriculum. Since founding in February 2024, through our events, audits, workshops, and training, we have worked directly with schools to identify gaps and co-create solutions to fix them, taking the weight off teachers' shoulders. We harness the power of intergenerational connection. YouthTheGap is not just a platform, we are a movement - to ensure everyone has accessible, meaningful and inclusive education. What can the world of education, reimagined, look like? And how can YOU be a part of it?
