St. Paul's Community Development Trust
St. Paul’s Community Development Trust is a charity that began in 1973 as a series of groups which were established to work with the community of Balsall Heath, an inner city area in Birmingham. With a diverse and ever changing community the population of Balsall Heath has come or came if you are speaking literally from all over the world. St. Paul’s Community Development Trust had its origins in the desire of people in Balsall Heath to make a better future for their children, getting together to start a nursery, adventure playground and small school. The three groups joined forces to establish the Trust in the late 1970s, and from these small beginnings in voluntary endeavour it has grown to be a thriving organisation. The Trust aims to work with and alongside the people of Balsall Heath in Birmingham and the wider neighbourhood to promote education, recreation and life-long learning. It works with children, young people and adults, who are involved with the Trust in many different ways.

The Community Brain Cic
We believe in giving people ‘permission’ to be brilliant because everyone can be brilliant if they are given the support and encouragement. This permission enables people to create the futures they want to see for themselves and that of their communities, on their own terms. We do this by putting stories, creativity and a never-ending passion for laughter, fun and play at the heart of all of our work. By liberating people through participation we hope to build a future for communities which is more mutual, more local, more equitable and more sustainable. We use the widest range of the arts, local history, social enterprise and community-led regeneration in order to give places renewed importance and pride. We help people to imagine and command their own story – instead of following those written for them by others. We work with local authorities, public transportation organisations, local businesses, local people, artists, creatives, Universities, colleges, schools, and the list goes on.

What our members say “ I wanted to express my gratitude for the exceptional service you provided for our team day with the Social Society. Your creativity and dedication shone through as you took on a very limited brief and orchestrated engaging workshops, paired us with an ideal speaker, and maintained an infectious enthusiasm throughout the entire experience. Working with you on a tight two-month timeframe felt secure, thanks to your outstanding organisational skills. I appreciated the flexibility of the different packages you offered, and opting for the entry-level one exceeded our expectations. I'm excited about the prospect of exploring more options with Social Society in the future. Your flexibility with timings, especially when we had a last-minute detour on our coach, did not go unnoticed. The juice bar and food options at the venue were delightful. Overall, I cannot thank you enough for your contribution. The venue was perfect, and I genuinely don't see any areas for improvement. I look forward to the possibility of working with the Social Society in the future" Beth Lewis, Head of People and Experience, Trusted Housesitters. We have a presence all over the UK. Bobu
You know that thing you do before you hold your partner's hand in public? The quick scan. The risk assessment. The mental calculation of how safe it is to just. exist? In 2025, we've got policies. We've got laws. And yet we're still calculating. Why? Because policies protect organisations, not people. Laws only work after you've already been harmed. In spite of all these policies and posters, you're still on your own in the moment. So we figured it out ourselves because who knows calculations better than LGBTQ+ people? We've been running these calculations since childhood. We're Luciana and Nick. We're part of the community that's been calculating safety for way too long. So we created the bobuSHIFT: Feel It. Read It. Own It. Thirty seconds to stop calculating and start moving. It's designed to be simple, memorable, and automatic. Because when things get tense, you don't have time for a manual. Here's how it works: You practice responses until they're muscle memory. Morning. Evening. Build the reflex. So when someone crosses a line, you act. Venues, businesses, and community spaces? Same thing. Train staff to notice when something's off and offer help before someone has to ask. Stay alert. Check in again. Make it systematic. The stats are grim: 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ people avoid venues entirely. 40% of trans people face retail discrimination. 18% skip healthcare. Hate crimes on transport are up 23% since 2020. But here's what changes that: practice, not policies. Safety training exists for fires. We built it for harassment, microaggressions and the daily grind of having to calculate whether you're safe enough to be yourself. When you take control of your safety, something shifts. People around you notice. They feel it. You shift. They shift. Two approaches - individuals and organisations. One outcome: people stop performing safety calculations just to exist. Life is the practice.
