Access to electricity is a key development priority in Rwanda. The Government’s “7-5-2” target aims for 100% national access in 7 years—within 5 years for productive use centers and 2 years for Kigali. EPD is a key partner in supporting these goals. Our Vision: All homes in Rwanda have access to clean energy. Our Mission: Universal energy access in an environment where the private sector can innovate, grow, and thrive. Our Objectives: • Collaborate with government on policy and strategies • Advocate for a supportive environment for private companies • Build strong public-private partnerships EPD is a registered association representing 200+ private energy companies in Rwanda. As one of the five associations under the Chamber of Industry (PSF), we focus on advocacy, capacity building, financing, events, and investment facilitation. We invite investors and stakeholders to partner with our members to accelerate Rwanda’s energy transition. We also work with regional partners like the SG Global Renewables Centre to promote innovation and knowledge exchange.

Amahoroenergy
Amahoro Energy, founded in 2013, is an innovative hydropower company that uses local labor to build and maintain run-of-the-river hydroelectric power generation plants in the Mukungwa river valley of the Republic of Rwanda. The first project, Musarara I, is a 450 KW hydropower plant on the Gaseke River, a tributary of the Mukungwa. The construction phase of this project has been completed and the hydropower plant has been fully operational since February 2013 and has since been selling power to the national grid. Nyundo: Amahoro Energy is now planning a new project, the Nyundo Plant, on the Mukungwa River. When completed, the Nyundo Plant will produce 5 MW of electricity, around 5% of Rwanda’s current consumption. Amahoro Energy's mission is to contribute to the independence and electrification of Rwanda and its people. Currently Rwanda has low generation capacity (186 MW), is dependent on imported energy sources, and 75% of its population lives without access to electricity. Amahoro Energy plans to contribute to Rwanda's projected energy goals of 563 MW of generation capacity and access to electricity for 70% of the population by 2017/18. https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2014/08/05/fact-sheet-powering-africa-increasing-access-power-sub-saharan-africa https://medium.com/power-africa/changing-careers-from-medicine-to-renewable-energy-f6f95fde0802 For information, please contact CEO, Dr. Caleb King caleb@amahoroenergy.com /
