University Of Miskolc

The predecessor of the University of Miskolc was the school of mining and metallurgy in Selmecbánya in 1735, which was the world’s first higher education institution giving instruction in these fields (preceding Freiberg, Berlin and St Petersburg). In 1762, Maria Theresia gave the school academy status. From 1846, foresters were also trained in the institution. Later, the Selmec school served as a model for the establishment of European technical colleges. In 1920, as a result of the Trianon peace treaties, the academy had to move to Sopron, then since 1949 it settled down in Miskolc, where it became a university of heavy industry, consisting of the Faculties of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, and of the newly founded Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Law courses started in 1981, and an independent Faculty of Law was established in 1983. The Faculty of Economics was established in 1990, the Faculty of Arts followed in 1997. The technical faculties continue their activities as Faculties of Earth Science and Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and Informatics. The first bachelor programme of the Institute of Healthcare was launched in 2001 to train district nurses, and in September 2004, the instruction of physiotherapists was also started here. In 2005, the institute was given faculty status therefore its present name is Faculty of Healthcare.

Higher education in Debrecen, Hungary dates back to the 16th century. The Reformed College of Debrecen, since it was established in 1538 has played a central role in education, teaching in the native language, and spreading Hungarian culture within the nearby region and throughout the nation. In 1912 the Hungarian Royal University of Sciences was founded. The contemporary University of Debrecen has been created in year by the merger of its legal predecessors: Debrecen University of Agricultural Sciences, Debrecen Medical University, Wargha István College of Education, Hajdúböszörmény and Kossuth Lajos University of Arts and Sciences (icl. Ybl Miklós Polytechnic ). The Faculty of Economics and Business is the youngest faculty of the Debrecen University and the largest one regarding the number of its students. This new Faculty was created by the integration of the Faculty of Applied Economics and Rural Development, with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration as of 1 August, 2014. The Department of Polymer Engineering of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics is one of the most important educational and research institutes in Hungary when it comes to polymers and polymer composites. Photoreact

PhotoReAct is an innovative training network (ITN) for new Early Stage Researchers (i.e. who have not yet obtained their PhD) aiming to make important contributions to the applicability and scalability of photocatalytic processes through the design of novel photocatalysts, new photocatalytic methodologies, cutting-edge technological solutions to enable automation and scalability, and immediate industrial implementation. The use of visible light energy to induce chemical transformations constitutes a chemoselective and green activation mode of organic molecules. However, implementation of this energy source in organic synthetic methodologies and in the industrial production of fine chemicals has been challenging. The PhotoReAct Innovative Training Network establishes a training network with 10 beneficiaries from academia and 4 beneficiaries from industry to tackle the challenges associated with photocatalysis in a coherent and comprehensive fashion. In total 15 Early Stage Researchers will be trained within the PhotoReAct network. The network will provide them with opportunities to undertake research with the aim to overcome the current limitations towards the applicability and scalability of photochemical transformations. This will be achieved through rational design of novel photocatalysts, the development of new photocatalytic methodologies, improved reactor technology and direct industrial implementation of photocatalytic transformations. Furthermore, the ESRs will be trained in the PhotoReAct graduate school, acquiring scientific, personal and soft skills. All ESRs will perform three secondments, of which at least one is intersectoral and carried out with an industrial partner and a second is international. Consequently, the ESRs will have improved career prospects and a higher employability. Due to the high degree of industrial participation, the PhotoReAct network will provide an innovation-friendly environment where scientific results can grow.

Bme High Voltage Laboratory

The High Voltage Laboratory is situated in a common building with the Block “V1” of the University of Technology and Economics in Budapest. It has a 24.16 m x 16.26 m sized area with 386 m2 effective interior space, and its height is 16.45 m. The craned hall is designed regarding the required flash-over and breakdown distances to ensure safe operation of the highest voltage equipment in the laboratory. The installations that belong to the High Voltage Laboratory are the localized and the mobile high, medium, low and extra low voltage equipment inside the lab, the substation in open air next to the hall of the High Voltage Laboratory supplying the 600 kV test transformer, the line, the adapting and the regulator transformer and their parts (environment-friendly basement, protective wall, rainproof roof), their feed cables and couplers, as well as all of the equipment which protect and feed these. Furthermore other main equipment are installed on the ground floor of the Laboratory, which are supplied by the 800 kVA transformer and 0.4 kV switchgear. In the history of the High Voltage Laboratory the first important equipment was a 250 kV transformer which is still in use. It was followed by the impulse generator which is capable of generating up to 1 MV peak value impulses. In the ‘70s the high voltage live line maintenance was introduced in Hungary, and at the same time the Laboratory was equipped with a 600 kV test transformer and with a 750 kV impulse generator. In the summer of 2012 the Laboratory was completely renovated. The largest Tesla-coil of Hungary is also located in the Laboratory. The main workplace of Group of High Voltage Technology and Equipment of the Department of Electric Power Engineering of BUTE is located in the Block “V1” of the University of Technology and Economics in Budapest.

The Laboratory of Plastics and Rubber Technology (MGL) carries out basic and applied research in the field of polymer science, covering a wide range of topics from theoretical studies to materials development. Interfacial interactions and structure-property correlations in polymer blends and composites have been in the focus of our attention for many years. We also study the degradation and stabilization of polymers and the melting, crystallization, and morphology of crystalline polymers. In recent years, considerable research has been done at the Laboratory on natural and bio-based polymers, fillers, fibers, and additives, as well as on functional materials for demanding applications in the automotive industry, packaging, and medicine.
