IREAS was established in 2001 with the aim of initiating and coordinating the cooperation of experts and institutions in research and its practical application into EU policies, particularly environmental and structural policies. Beyond Hegemonic Narratives And Myths Primus Project
Beyond Hegemonic Narratives and Myths (BOHEMS) is an academic project (2017-19) funded by Charles University through the Primus Research Program. Through this project, we wish to come to a better understanding of troubled pasts in specifically, but not limited to, the regions of Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey and the countries of former Yugoslavia. While this project is grounded in academic research, it aims for practical solutions to current issues concerning identity and memory by means of the presentation of these troubled pasts to the public. Our team is an international, interdisciplinary group composed of one PI, three post-doc CIs, five PhD CIs and one post-graduate student CI affiliated to Charles University. They specialize primarily in memory studies, contemporary European history, post-conflict resolution and the presentation of history via museums, art and memorials. Our project maps out the historical narratives and myths of troubled pasts within nation-building processes, which help create and preserve “imagined communities” and thus contribute to a specific formation of cultural identities across East-Central and South-East Europe. Our research takes into account oral testimonies, nonfiction historical works, archival sources and other outputs of collective histories so as to analyze the presentation of these narratives in the forms of cultural-political representation such as museums, school textbooks, and vernacular memorials. Our goal is to determine how more inclusive museums and conceptual art open up the possibility for rethinking collective memories of troubled pasts, and in doing so find alternative and inclusive presentations of history in a world of increasing nationalism, violence and radicalization.

Center For Advanced Preclinical Imaging Capi
The Center for Advanced Preclinical Imaging (CAPI) was created to apply the most advanced imaging technologies for basic and applied research carried out not only by scientific teams from the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague but by researchers from other scientific institutions in the Czech Republic and the European Union. CAPI participates in two consortium, CzechBioImaging and EuroBioImaging. In addition to in-vivo imaging services, CAPI is also involved in the development and testing of new imaging probes and technologies as well as teaching students and performing in-house research. We are a multimodal imaging center equipped with the latest technologies, enabling examination of small laboratory animals (mouse, rat) by means of X-ray, CT, MRI, MPI, PET, SPECT, and optical imaging using fluorescence and luminescence. All these methods can be combined for one anesthetized animal and the images can be merged. Measurements can be made for up to four animals simultaneously. The devices have integrated anesthesia for maintaining body temperature of an animal and monitoring its vital signs (ECG, respiration, blood pressure, video monitoring).

Centre For Climate Law And Sustainability Studies Class
The Centre for Climate Law and Sustainability Studies (CLASS) is an expert research unit based at the Institute of State and Law of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Launched in 2020, our Centre explores the contemporary challenges and problems that climate change poses to law at all levels and contributes to solving them in the Czech Republic. The creation of the research unit has been made possible by the kind support of the Czech Academy of Sciences through a ‘Lumina quaeruntur’ academic award to run a 5-year climate law project led by Hana Müllerová. Our mission is to develop and cultivate the new discipline of climate law in a systematic way in the Czech law scholarship, to present our findings to both a law audience and the public, to develop interdisciplinary collaboration and to establish contacts and cooperation with other climate law research teams in Europe. Our small research team, the first in the Czech Republic specialised in climate law and sustainability, covers International, European and Czech law. We concentrate especially on: • law instruments of climate mitigation and adaptation; • impacts of climate change on human rights, and human right approaches to climate protection; • development and current trends in climate litigation; • emission trading systems; • legal regulation of energy, technologies and transport; • law criteria for just transition processes to a low-carbon economy; • relations between climate protection and environmental protection; • climate change impacts on international trade and investment; • law aspects of sustainable consumption. The Center for Machine Perception (CMP) is a research unit focussing on computer vision, pattern recognition, and mathematics. The CMP, headed by Professor Vaclav Hlavac, has about 15 staff members and 15 doctoral students. The CMP is part of the Miracle Center of Excellence (funding: EU 5th framework) and of the national Centre of Applied Cybernetics. The CMP participates in a number of EU-funded and national projects.

Centre For Higher Education Studies
The Centre for Higher Education Studies was established in 1991 by the transformation of the then Institute for Higher Education Development as a semi-budgetary organization of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. Since 1st January 2007, we have been operating in accordance with Act No. 341/2005 Coll. as a public research institution established by MEYS. Professional experts of today’s CHES have been involved in higher education research for almost 30 years. Their research work is focused on Czech higher education in general and on its development. Currently, we also focus on higher education students and graduates (Graduate 2018, Eurograduate 2018-2020, and Eurostudent VII projects), problem of drop-out (SNOP project), we analyze the cooperation of higher education institutions with industry/business, inequalities in access to higher education, and the preparation of future teachers. Our activities also include international cooperation, which is primarily based on international projects (e.g. PERIF, IQAT). One of the pillars of our work is to monitor international and especially European development in higher education.
